A Research Review of using acupuncture to help with pain from cervical cancer.

Woman lying in bed after having surgery for cervical cancer

In this meta analysis of research papers they looked at the effectiveness of using acupuncture as an adjunct therapy to help treat the post-operative pain from surgery for cervical cancer. They found that adding the acupuncture was much more effective that conventional treatment alone. They also found that gastro-intestinal function also was significantly improved with the acupuncture as well. Interestingly, like I see in clinic, they also found that manual acupuncture was more effective than electro-acupuncture. Using the Karnofsky Performance Scale, patients also reported better overall functioning in the acupuncture group too.
