Looking at the neuro-protective properties of Fructus Mume (Wu mei/Umeboshi plums).

Umeboshi pickled plums, known as Mume/Wumei in China

Fructus Mume (Mume/Wu mei in China, Umeboshi in Japan) is a food used in China and Japan. Maybe some of you have tried the wumei treats found in a chinatown near you. Japanese food fans would know the salty pickled version shown in the image. In this research they found the flavonoids in this plum can help alleviate a particular kind of inflammation in the brain and therefor possibly help with neuro-inflammatory disorders. When I was in Japan I found that they make a specific Ramen soup with the pickled umeboshi plums to help a hangover. For science, I had a “friend” try it out. He reported it did make him feel a bit better. :)
