Research looking at acupuncture combined with gradual benzodiazepine reduction for benzodiazepine-dependent insomnia.

Woman unable to sleep, staring at her clock.

In this study study they looked at people with benzodiazepine-dependent insomnia (BDI). Benzodiazepines are common insomnia medications, which can be addictive, which people can develop a tolerance to and which there are unwanted side-effects. Here they looked to use acupuncture to help people gradually ween off their benzodiazepines. They found that “Acupuncture combined with gradual benzodiazepine reduction significantly reduced insomnia severity and promoted benzodiazepine discontinuation in patients with BDI.”
