Research looking at using Ficus Virens Aiton leaves (white fig tree) to help protect the liver in sepsis.
White Fig Tree Leaves and Fruit
In this study they induced sepsis in mice and used an extract of the Total Flavonoids (FLA) in Ficus Virens leaves to see if it could help prevent the liver damage that normal occurs with sepsis. They found that high-dose FLA increased the survival rate from 12.5% to 50% and that all FLA doses alleviated weight loss and hepatic injury, and reduced a bunch of inflammatory markers and pro-inflammatory factors. What makes this study less applicable for real clinical use is that it was done on mice and that it was induced sepsis. However , what I did like with it was they used all the flavonoids in these leaves , instead of looking for 1 active component. There are hundreds of different biochemicals in each part of each plant and we evolved ingesting the whole part of the plant and not just an active ingredient.
