Research looking at biomarkers to confirm a TCM diagnosis of Damp Heat in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) or metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD).

Depiction of a diseased liver

This research is interesting because they used a TCM diagnosis to differentiate between two different TCM patterns (DH or non-DH) in the same western diseases (chronic hepatitis B (CHB) or metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD)). This exactly mirrors what happens in a TCM clinic. Then they found biomarkers that incorporate 4 genes and 2 metabolites, demonstrates promising diagnostic potential for DH pattern in patients with chronic liver diseases. Cool that they can use tests to identify this pattern and then hopefully get those people more specific and effective treatment. The irony here is that they confirmed with expensive technology and gene tests what a TCM practitioner diagnosed in the first place with their own skill and training looking at the person and their symptoms:)
